Gas mask (XSP)

A gas mask is a protective mask worn to protect the face and lungs against toxic gases.

In a majority of the Xyrinfian universes, they are considered different from respirators.

Differences in Types

In Serenth, there are Type-1, Type-2, and Type-3 gas masks.

Type-3 gas masks

Type-3 gas masks are enchanted to allow for an unlimited amount of air, in addition to allowing the wearer to breathe underwater.

In the Alfarnos universe

In Lunar Shadow ZER0

• Aidan Flamberge, Alexis Flamberge, Ilina (unconscious), Martel Aar, Shinica and a Lamentation Girl are all seen in gas masks at varying points in time.

In Phantasma Shade

• The Dark Scarlet Night wears a gas mask. Since she uses sleeping gas when breaking into places (like the Filenia mansion in No Town, the mask keeps her from breathing in the gas.
• Satine also wears a gas mask.

In Lunar Shadow

• A black face-concealing gas mask is a part of the Dark Armour.

In Lunar Shadow X

• Amariss Richters wears a grey gas mask.

In Apocalyptic Shadow

• Several NPCs wear gas masks:
  • Most of these NPCs believe the apocalypse of Serenth involves toxic gases.
  • Some races require the gas masks to breathe, as oxygen is toxic to them; so far, one such character appears in Apocalyptic Shadow.

In Umbrageous Light

• Dataverse-Kaguya Hadley wears a gas mask for reasons not yet clear.

Races and gas masks

Members of some races often wear gas masks for reasons.

• It is not uncommon to see Jotunn or Valkyries wear gas masks, as even tear gas can poison them and nullify most Synchs and Taints.
  • Likewise, it isn't uncommon to see Erinysi wear gas masks to protect them from airborne allergens, as exposure to any allergens can neutralize most of their Core (or even destroy it).
• At least one race is known to wear gas masks on planets with oxygen, as they cannot breathe in environments with oxygen.

Uniforms

Gas masks may be worn as part of some uniforms.

• Several members of the Voidslaves wear gas masks with their uniforms.
• Some school uniforms require gas masks to be worn for various reasons.
• The Serenthan spy uniform worn by spies requires gas masks to be worn.
• The uniforms for the Neo Organization, the One Institution and The Establishment all have gas masks as a requirement.

Trivia

• If Serenity Horton wears a gas mask in Lunar Shadow when confronting Aidan Flamberge, it will trigger a bad ending.
